Hold the Cookies

I went on a cookie fast this week - it was hard, but I did it. Yay me. No, but really, Heritage feeds us a lot (#blessed) and there are ALWAYS cookies. It's so easy to eat one or two with lunch and then grab a few extras to snack on. When that happens every day, it adds up to a lot of cookies. Maybe this week I'll do a donut fast...

Union Station

This week was quite cultural - we ate lots of ethnic food. On Tuesday Clark, Dave, and I found a Vietnamese restaurant that was delicious and filling and cheap. I also found a hairdresser advertising red coloring. Apparently, "Red is in!"
On Wednesday, Clark, Jared, Sarah, and I decided we wanted to go on an adventure, so we picked a neighborhood to go to after work and had one. I took us to U St, which has a lively jazz club scene. We found a Trader Joe's (my all-time favorite store) where I got pumpkin pie cookie butter. I was basically in heaven. There was a lady behind me laughing when I found it because I was so excited. At least I made someone smile. After wandering around for longer, we ended up in a little Ethiopian restaurant. SO fun! Eating with my hands was definitely a new experience; not sure if I loved it or hated it. (The great thing about being the photographer, you aren't in the photo)

Thursday was spent doing homework and by Friday we were pooped. We had grand plans to go out, but sometimes staying in is needed. So the boys who don't already live with us (Clark, Christian, and Dave) came over and we had a movie night. Les Miserables, what else?
Saturday we made up for our quiet Friday night with lots of walking. Jared, Sarah, and I explored some of the Mall (the Washington Monument elevator is broken indefinitely and it broke my heart), found the Holocaust museum, and completed a very large circle with the Jefferson, FDR, and MLK memorials. By late afternoon the three of us were sopping wet, so we got hot chocolate and apple cider on the way home, where Jared introduced me to Inception, which I have never seen before. And which I probably don't need to see again. Our BYU friends invited us to a late supper, so we ended up off of Chinatown (we actually spend quite a bit of time there) at a BBQ place. By 10, Jared and I were exhausted, so we went home and everyone else walked around for another few hours.

     Happy Sunday!
