We spent the weekend in L'viv, and I loved it! The whole group took a sleeper train on Friday night and got there first thing Saturday morning. We did some exploring, went to Strudel Heaven for breakfast, checked into our hostel, and went on an excursion with a guide, all before noon.
After the excursion was free game for the rest of the weekend. I ate tons of food (Strudel Heaven twice, Chocolate Factory three times, world's largest pizza, Tex-Mex from a real live American, giant crepes filled with bananas and Nutella...)
Climbed the Town Hall tower and fell in love with L'viv
Saw lots of cathedrals (and definitely walked off the Chocolate Factory)
Went to sacrament meeting in the most adorable pink chapel. The L'viv branch was the most welcoming place; I had so many cute Ukrainian ladies and little kids come up and introduce themselves. Getting there was quite the adventure as well - it involved taping of shoes and not getting lost. Okay, I know I can't say that and then not tell the story. On the walk to the church, Mallory lost the sole of her boot. She honest-to-goodness said, "If only we could find somewhere that found tape..." then looked up, and there was tape staring at us through a window. We walked inside the stationary store and got some tape, after which we doctored up her boot. Not going to lie, it was absolutely hilarious. One of the sister missionaries offered Mallory her companion's extra boots, but having a taped shoe all day made Mallory that much more cool.
And explored Ukraine's oldest cemetery, which I thought was worth the walk. But really, if you're ever in L'viv, don't walk all the way to the cemetery, just take the tram!
I wanna come too!
