Okay so a lot of you already knew I was thinking about doing this, but now it's for real - I got my official assignment this afternoon! I'm going to Ukraine!!
Now I know that sounds super freaky, what with everything going on over there, but I won't be leaving until next January. But let me start at the beginning so this all makes sense.
I've wanted to study/volunteer abroad for years; a flame definitely sparked during my trip with Grandma and Grandpa Farnworth. After a lot of study and prayer, I've decided to participate in a program called International Language Program. For four months I'll be living with a host family and teaching English to little kids, probably around kindergarten age. Because of my school schedule, I'll be going to Kiev, Ukraine. I'm leaving in mid-January and returning mid-April, obviously next year. Not only do I get to live in Ukraine for four months, I'll also have the opportunity to travel to Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Austria, Czech Republic, and Romania. This program is much, much, much cheaper than any travel study program I've found for this length of time. Donating is also tax deductible, so I'll definitely be asking for help fundraising later on. But if you want more details about the program, definitely check out the website: ilp.org.
Oh, I guess I better explain for anyone who doesn't already know why going in January is the best for my school schedule. Although I've enjoyed my time here at Southern Virginia University, I have decided to transfer to BYU-I. I am assigned to the Fall/Spring track, which means that my 'summer break' is Christmas-April. I am planning on staying in Blackfoot for my extra long, awesome summer, doing Fall semester at BYU-I, going to Ukraine in January, then coming back and starting Spring semester April 2015. Spring semester will end in July, BYU-I will be switching me to Winter/Spring track, and then hopefully I'll be starting my M.A. in Historical Resource Management at ISU that fall. So for my Junior and Senior years, I'll be working on my M.A. during the fall, then my undergrad January-July.
Crazy, right? Yes, I am. And although this is my plan now, I know the Lord has a bigger plan for me, so my ideas will change as needed. Except for the whole teaching English to little kids for four months. I've already signed the contract and paid my deposit, so there's no backing out now. Let me know if you have questions, or tips on learning a new alphabet!

So, I've got the Book of Mormon and Bible in Russian since I studied it for a few years in college. I bet it wouldn't be that hard to get a copy from the Church. That is so awesome! Except too bad Germany isn't on the list 'cause we're moving there in July. Super excited for you.
