Helllooo semester number 2! One week down, 16 more to go. I love new semesters because you get to start all over again. You have new classes, new professors, new classmates, new textbooks, new blog layouts...
Last semester I only took 16 credits, and I was super bored. I guess that's what happens when you let the registrar pick your schedule. She thought I needed to "ease into the college life." Bah!
This semester I learned my lesson and took control. Which means it's going to be an awesome semester. I'm the one paying the money to be here, after all. So this spring I'm still only taking 16 credits, but several of my classes are upper division classes instead of those lame Freshmen classes. I am taking a political theory class, Microeconomics, American history, Historical Methods, a philosophy class, and Intro to Law. I'm the only Freshmen in Historical Methods, which is basically a class about how to be a historian; it'll be loads of fun. I'm there by invitation of the professor since it is an upper division class. My Intro to Law is also an upper division class, which is also going to be a blast!
16 credits isn't too bad, but there's more. I am accompanying a voice class, which means I may end up with 18 credits instead of 16. We'll see. I am also auditing three classes. 18 credits is our max, and it's a pain in the neck to get permission to overload your schedule, and I really want to do well in Historical Methods. And I'm one of those strange people who like learning for learning's sake. So by auditing, I get to participate in class without doing the papers or tests, which means I don't get credit for the class, but I don't care about getting credit for them anyway. I'm auditing a Spies and Conspiracies class here at SVU and two online courses taught at Yale and the University of Texas. Yay for learning!
Another reason this semester is going to be the bomb dot com is because I get a fridge. Well, actually, half of a miniature mini-fridge. (It's a miniature mini-fridge because it's smaller than normal mini-fridges.) Half of a teeny shelf may not sound like much, but it opens up a world of possibilities in terms of what I can eat. I can have carrots, or yogurt, or cottage cheese, or eggs, or cheese... And the list could go on.
And that, my friends, concludes my first blog post for the new semester on my new layout. Happy studying (or working or whatever it is you all do), and may the odds be ever in your favor.
